"They say don't wear your heart on a sleeve
The farther it is from your chest
Makes it that much more harder to breathe
But what if that's the only way
I know how to believe
Pardon me, may I get lost in my dreams?
Even though it gets harder to breathe
I take a deep breath and I follow my dreams..."
This is the chorus to a song entitled "Follow My Dreams" where I speak about the urgency to pursue what I desire, not just for my life, but also what I can share with others.
The song mainly drew inspiration from a student that I met at a middle school when I recorded their poetry club. I met various different students, all from different cultures and backgrounds and each with different joys and struggles they face each day.
But this one young man, full of life stepped up to record his poem. He had a poem he recited and did his very best to draw each word out in order to complete his phrases. And indeed, he delivered it beautifully.
I was touched.
I mean, for a moment, I wanted to break down and cry. He had many difficulties that would render it extremely tough for him to give his poem, let alone, record it. But he pushed through and brought about an amazing performance.
It brought such a rush of inspiration that I began to write...
And write...
And write...
And it felt like time flew around me when I was in my zone, writing.
Well, this mixtape is what resulted. I do hope you enjoy it but mainly, I ask that you take this short journey with me to get lost in music and in turn, find your own passion for life.
